My name is Mary Kline-Misol, and I’m from Des Moines, Iowa. I received my BFA (’74) and MFA (’86) degrees from Drake University. Between 1976 and 1999, I taught art in Newton, IA and Des Moines. I’m now an independent artist based.
My imagery revolves around figurative subjects, compositions, botanicals, and landscapes. My still life works incorporate ethnic objects, such as puppets and ceramic figures, that I personify with their placement in the compositions. I strive for a portrait-like quality in my figurative works. I am influenced by literature, myth, poetry, and the wildlife in my own backyard.
